Laughlin Memorial Chapel |
Afterschool at the Chapel Young people in grades K-12 come to Laughlin Chapel for afterschool activities Monday through Thursday during the academic year. Transportation is provided to the Chapel by Ohio County Schools or by the Chapel's own bus.
The daily afterschool schedule includes a snack, homework help and academic skills reinforcement. In addition, kids participate in enrichment activities such as music with Wheeling Symphony, classes with Olgeby Institiute, weekly trips to the Ohio County Library, Girl Scouts, and art. The Chapel employs classroom staff for the afterschool program. Additional assistance is provided by education majors and other students from West Liberty University, Waynesburg University, Wheeling Jesuit University, West Virginia Northern Community College, and Bethany College. At 5:00 each evening, the children enjoy a nutritious meal at the Chapel Kid's Cafe. They are transported to their homes by school bus. The average attendance in the afterschool program is 125 students, and the program is operated 33 weeks each year.
